15-03-09 Befriending Scheme Goes On for Vulnerable Chinese

It has been over a year since the Islington Chinese Association's befriending service first begun through funding from the Wates Foundation and the project has gone from strength to strength. We are now providing social support to 12 older residents living in Islington. Whilst the number seems small, Susie Yau, the Chinese Concern Co-ordinator said that she deliberately kept it this way. "We had started the project from scratch so it was important to not be over-ambitious but to build up relationships with the users slowly. This way, we were able to build a full and clear picture about their needs and what they actually required from this service."

12-12-08 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with Father Kevin McDevitt

Friends are forever, so is a freezer - a perfect gift for friends, any time! Representatives from Islington Chinese Association and St Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church got together again at the lobby of SGCC on Friday 12/12/2008 for another happy occasion - a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

03-12-08 ICA's Biggest Birthday Celebration to-date with Traditional Pun Tsoi

We celebrated our members' birthday on Wednesday, 3rd December 2008, for those who were born in the months of October, November and December, in style with the traditional Pun Tsoi or Walled Villages' Basin Meal (i.e. food served in basins) - a special custom in the New Territories in Hong Kong for many generations.  It was not only our first birthday party at St Gabriel's Community Centre (SGCC), our new home,  it was also our biggest birthday party for the elderly in ICA's history.  More than 160 people turned up, including friends, members, staff, and management committee members.   Father Kevin and Rachel of St Gabriel's R.C. Church also came along and celebrated it with us.

Islington Chinese Association is very pleased to have Ms Cherie Booth QC and Alderman Sir David Brewer CMG JP agreed to be patrons, in addition to Baroness Dunn DBE who has been ICA's first patron since 1996.
