Islington Chinese Association

Our History and Achievements 歷史與成績

It all began in one small room at 70 Bavaria Road, rented from Islington Council in 1986. At the time, we only had the resources for one full-time and one part-time worker. Despite such challenges, we were still able to develop services which catered for the need of the elderly, youth and women. We moved to No. 33 Giesbach Road on 12 July 1992, and continue to grow even further. On 1st October 2008, with many of your blessings, we moved to where we are today, our new home at No. 21 Hatchard Road N19 4NG…

The following are some of our milestones and achievements

  • Our advice Workers have dealt with over 10,500 cases over the past 20 years;
  • Over 150,000 luncheons and meals-on-wheels have been provided by our dedicated kitchen staff since June 1992 to 2008;

  • ‘Walking the Way to Health’ programme attracted over 7,000 participants;

  • An ‘Awards for All’ grant enabled the publication of ‘The Millennium Faces- Chinese Older People in the UK: a collection of black & white images capturing the experience of the older Chinese population who emigrated to Britain in the 1950’s;
