Islington Chinese Association

Recognition and Awards

Much of what ICA has accomplished over the past twenty years was acknowledged and accredited by the Queen’s Award for voluntary organisations in 2005, "… a prize which rightly brings even further recognition and prestige than your outstanding record already commands and in displaying The Queen’s Award Emblem, demonstrates your ability to meet the very high standards which are central to the United Kingdom’s volunteer spirit" (Colonel Brain Kay OBE TD DL, Chairman of ICA, and Her Majesty The Queen’s Representative in Islington)

The Association was the only Chinese charity in England being awarded the Queen’s Award for Community Voluntary Service in 2005.  Different awards were presented to the staff and volunteers over the years, eg, the London Champions for Voluntary Service in 2005 to Dr. Stephen Ng and Karen Kwok; the 2006 Outstanding Chinese Older People Award to Yuen Liu and Kam Shing Lam; the Outstanding Chinese Women 2006 to Katy Tse Blair; the Islington Mayor’s Civic Award to Perry Fung in 2007, Mana Wong in 2006 and Chun Loy So in 2000. There are lots of unsung heroes serving tirelessly for the benefit and welfare of the Chinese community. Without their voluntary contributions and the support of the members, friends, donors and sponsors, the Association could not have come this far. ICA will continue to promote and champion in voluntary services working with statutory and voluntary agencies, including other Chinese organisations.
